Drones are leading today’s bandwagon of autonomous last-mile deliveries. E-commerce behemoths, such as Walmart and Amazon, are the greatest examples; using drones to successfully bridge the route between the distribution centres and end-customer doorsteps without human intervention. Inspired by this trend, drone-based autonomous intralogistics solutions are also emerging as excellent alternatives to their tedious and error prone manual counterparts.

One of the leading-edge firms making this possible is doks.innovation, with its autonomous, drone-based inventory management solutions. The company offers a range of drone-based inventory solutions, as well as inbound and outbound tracking.

For instance, doks.innovation’s drone-based pallet rack storage management solution, doks.inventairy, comprises a ground vehicle, a flying drone, and precise sensor technology, along with corresponding software. The interaction of these components enables the system to autonomously navigate the warehouse, automatically collect data, and intelligently process the data for smooth operations.

For the autonomous navigation of the drones, doks.inventairy leverages a digital twin of the warehouse to reliably determine its own position. The system then uses sensors attached to the drone to collect the necessary data by scanning all the bar and QR codes. The collected data is automatically processed by the system via its intelligent software to provide detailed information on the structure of the warehouse, along with the location of stored items and available storage spaces.

“As a result of this autonomous approach, the cumbersome process of manual stocktaking is almost eliminated, freeing the employees of repetitive tasks and letting them focus more on value adding responsibilities,” states Manuel Krieg, Managing Director and CEO of doks.innovation.

Equally commendable is doks.innovation autonomous solutions for inside and outside block storage management. doks.ceiling is a tailor made solution for automated stocktaking in indoor block storage areas.

For this, camera modules are attached under the storage celling to capture the images of the stored stacks and seamlessly track the stored objects without manual intervention. The data recorded by doks.ceiling can be exported to the warehouse’s existing ERP and WMS to visualise the images. In this way, the entire inventory can be automatically managed at the push of a button.

doks.sky, on the other hand, is a fully automated drone system for inventory data management in all outdoor block storage areas, giving its administrators a bird’s-eye view of the entire area. The drone navigates through the block storage space, at an altitude of 30 metres, and the integrated camera takes numerous high-resolution images of the entire storage area.

These images are later used to create a digital 3D map of the storage area to enable employees to determine the exact location of a block, along with its relevant inventory data to help the administrators find the location of specific stacked objects, measure the height of the block, and determine free spaces for new storage.

Together, the capabilities of these autonomous inventory management solutions are helping OEMs eliminate common production line challenges like locating raw material pallets in a warehouse or tracking the demand and supply ratio of their inventory. With doks.innovation, the production line never has to halt their operations and incur a loss.

doks.innovation is the cornerstone of many success stories and wants to continue assisting logistics companies to eliminate common problems of manual stocktaking in warehouses. To broaden its benefits, the company is working on a pallet damage detection feature to add flying sets of eyes to quality inspections. doks.innovation’s mission is to be the push-of-a-button solution for autonomous inventory management.
