Collaborative Mobile Robots Enriching Production and Warehouse Logistics

By Logistics Tech Outlook | Tuesday, December 11, 2018

Collaborative mobile robots are considered to be one of the most disruptive technologies that are commonly used in factories for facilitating industrial tasks. The use of mobile collaborative robots still remains a relatively new way to handle internal transport functions. Many companies are implementing various AI and machine learning tools in their businesses, especially by production automation. In many of the companies, material handling and in-house transportation of partially finished or finished goods are often still done manually by spending more time and money for just moving an item from one place to another place within the organization. But collaborative robots perform these tasks in a more simple, efficient, and cost-effective way.

Shelf Units is a collaborative mobile robotic system that is used to move or transport goods from one place to another in production departments and warehouses or in warehouse logistics functions. They are commonly used with semi-automated devices which will work when there is a command from the worker through the mobile robot interface, or by pressing an installed button.

The application of mobility in the robotic arm has become highly effective in the factories which are capable of doing repeatedly picking products from warehouse shelves and putting them back. This will be a fruitful strategy for retail warehouses due to the facts that they get orders from different locations and need to organize and deliver them at the shipping area.

Conveyor bands or belts is another robotic application that transports the goods between a fixed conveyor or belts. These are mostly used in areas where the robots transport items from the production line to the delivery area. Another mobile robotic technology called as Automated Pallet Fork can automatically locate the pallet fork and then move it to the scheduled location. With the use of this technology, the workers have more time because they only have to upload and unload items from the pallet fork.

There is another mobile robotic technology called Safety Units which are mostly used in hospitals, mainly for the purpose of autonomously transporting the medicine carried and locked in a container with more safety. It is highly efficient with the ability to automatically communicate with doors and elevators so that there is no need for human intervention in this process. They just need to fill the medicine and schedule the task.

Application of collaborative mobile robotics in these industrial areas has enabled businesses to save a humungous amount of time and money, and it is the most effective way to ensure efficient production processes and warehouse logistics.
