FREMONT, CA: From a significant e-commerce business to just getting off the ground, customer loyalty is a top priority for any corporation, and nothing makes a customer happier than efficiently and conveniently getting their favorite items. The essence of every business activity is to get goods into the clients' hands quickly and cost-effectively. Yet, as the company grows, it becomes difficult and expensive to manage the supply chain, errors made in logistics will affect the customer experience, hinder the business's growth, and cut into the income. Companies also outsource their delivery and logistic operations to a third-party logistics firm, also known as a 3PL or third-party logistics provider, to mitigate these problems.
What is Third-Party Logistics (3PL)?
Third-party logistics outsource the processes and logistics of the supply chain to get a business's goods to the client. The logistics solutions provided by 3PLs include facilities for receiving, storing, packaging, and shipping. Other logistics services, referred to as value-added services, are also offered by some 3PL firms.
Types of 3PLs
Many 3PLs offer a range of services, although not all 3PLs provide similar services and features, and in one or two areas, some 3PLs specialize. Each of these functional areas is based on most 3PLs:
Inventory shipments are handled by 3PLs dependent on transportation services between vendors and the warehouse or between the company and the customers. They are freight forwarders and small parcel shippers, like UPS, FedEx, and USPS, which often bring large shipments from one nation to another.
Warehousing, Fulfillment, and Distribution
It is the most popular 3PL form and offers necessary facilities for fulfillment, like storage, fulfillment, picks and carry, shipping, and returns. To outsource all or most of their distribution and warehousing needs, sellers use this form of 3PL. In addition, the maximum of these 3PLs handle the transportation of the seller, recognizing which shipper to use, managing the shipper relationship, and on behalf of the seller, increasing the shipping strategy.
Financial and Information
These 3PLs, usually utilized by larger e-commerce firms, optimize the organization's logistics network by offering services starting from accounting and cost control to freight forwarding, inventory monitoring and management, and similar functions.
